The Bible says not to get drunk, and that we are to obey the laws of the land, and that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit.

And there are many references in Scripture warning us against drunkenness and/or drug use.

The Apostle Paul wrote:

“So then let us not sleep [in spiritual indifference] as the rest [of the world does], but let us keep wide awake [alert and cautious] and let us be sober [self-controlled, calm, and wise]. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are drunk get drunk at night. But since we [believers] belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope and confident assurance of salvation.” (1 Thessalonians 5:6-8 AMP)

“Do not get drunk with wine, for that is wickedness (corruption, stupidity), but be filled with the [Holy] Spirit and constantly guided by Him.” (Ephesians 5:18 AMP)

Everything is permissible for me, but not all things are beneficial. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not be enslaved by anything [and brought under its power, allowing it to control me].” (1 Corinthians 6:12 AMP)

The Apostle John wrote:

“Outside (the city gates) are the dogs [the godless, the impure, those of low moral character] and the sorcerers [with their intoxicating drugs, and magic arts], and the immoral persons [the perverted, the molesters, and the adulterers], and the murderers, and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying (deception, cheating).” (Revelation 22:15 AMP; italics mine for clarity)

The Common English Bible translates that same verse as: “Outside are the dogs, the drug users and spell-casters, those who commit sexual immorality, the murderers, the idolaters, and all who love and practice deception.” (Revelation 22:15 CEB)

Maybe you never thought of this, but drug use or drunkenness opens you up to spiritual attacks.

satan will use drugs and alcohol to gain a stronghold in your life.

And when you drink alcohol and/or use drugs you are in no shape to fight against satan’s attacks.

And you are leaving yourself wide open to demonic oppression, and for non-Christians demonic possession.

There are also specific demonic spirits associated with alcohol and drug use, and every time you use these substances, you could unknowingly be opening the doorway for these demonic spirits to come into your life.

Christians who minister in deliverance ministry, (as all Christians should if they know, and use, the authority and power of the Name of Jesus), can testify to having to often having to bind and cast out these spirits out of people.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places. Therefore, put on the complete armour of God, so that you will be able to [successfully] resist and stand your ground in the evil day [of danger], and having done everything [that the crisis demands], to stand firm [in your place, fully prepared, immovable, victorious].” (Ephesians 6:12-13 AMP)

“Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:13-16 NIV)
